Fellow-Tcl’er and bookstore investigator Michael Cleverly has started a new blog, Wisdom from the 42nd Page. He plans to “taste-test” three books a day, giving a slight bit of info about each, and showing the entire 42nd page. He writes about his motivations at his old blog. The schedule sounds a little ambitious, but it’s a neat idea.
I chose three per day because that naturally made 42 per fortnight, which played into the whole 42 “life the universe and everything” gimmick. π Boy am I glad I didn’t aim for 42 per week! 42 per month would have probably worked just as well, but it isn’t as cleanly divisible.
Having been at it for almost a month now, I’ve come to realize the schedule is much more ambitious than I’d naively anticipated. But, it’s been fun, and it is forcing me to blog on a regular schedule, which I hope will develop a habit that will eventually carry over (to a lesser extent) on my main blog.
I’ve had the good fortune of having a few readers email me the text from the 42nd page of some of their favorite books, which I’ve save and pull out when I’m in a pinch for time. I’m also frequenting our local library much more regularly which my kids appreciate during the summer (the local elementary school library is only open for two hours each Monday morning).

Aha! Of course, if you’d done one per day, you’d get 42 in six weeks, three fortnights.
I think your style is interesting. Minimal comments, but judicious highlighting. It’s novel, and I think one could do a lot with it.
